While the September 15th deadline given by the Finance Minister for fixing the Income Tax portal has run out, the technical glitches on the IT portal remain.

The Income Tax portal developed by Infosys remains plagued by glitches beyond the Finance Ministry instituted deadline

The portal which went live on 7th June has encountered many technical problems since, attracting the attention of the Finance Ministry and the Taxpayers who have taken to social media.

“For individuals, it is difficult to file. Some of the features such as pre-filled form for interest payments on FD and others are still not updated,” said Chandan Kumar Hegde, President of the Karnataka State Chartered Accountants’ Association. Hegde continued, “we have made presentations (to the government and Infosys). Maybe 50-60% of it is implemented.”

It was noted that Infosys did not respond to the source’s queries. Additionally, many users posted images on social media of the issues that they faced during the filing of their returns. Earlier, the finance minister and the CEO of the company had a meeting and decided that 15th September would be the deadline to resolve all issues.

Additionally, it was announced that the government has also decided to extend the last date of filing the IT returns to 31st December 2021.While the problems on the portal persist, experts advise a word of caution, hinting taxpayers to file returns at the earliest and avoid interest penalties.
