HSBC has appointed its CFO, Georges Elhedery, as the new CEO, replacing Noel Quinn who led a major restructuring.Elhedery joined in 2005 and became CFO in 2023
HSBC has announced that its current Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Georges Elhedery, will take over as the group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective, September 2. Elhedery will replace the outgoing CEO, Noel Quinn. The bank revealed that it had considered both internal and external candidates for the position before finalising Elhedery’s appointment.
Noel Quinn, who earlier this year announced his decision to step down after four years as CEO, led a major restructuring of HSBC’s operations. His tenure saw a significant recovery in the bank’s cash reserves and profitability.
Elhedery, who joined HSBC in 2005, was appointed as CFO in 2023. He will continue to serve in his current role until a successor is appointed.
