Alphabet Inc.’s Google plans to slow down its hiring for the rest of the year

In an email to Google employees, CEO Sundar Pichai said that the company will be slowing its hiring for the rest of 2022. For the remainder of the year, he said that Google will focus on hiring on engineering, technical, and other critical roles. Alphabet Inc.’s Google now plans to slow down its hiring in Q3 and Q4. In an internal memo, CEO Sundar Pichai has said that Google will be “slowing the pace of hiring” for the rest of the year. In the internal e-mail, Google CEO also stressed on the need for being entrepreneurial and “working with greater urgency”. The company might now be looking at investments overlap and streamlining its processes.

“Scarcity breeds clarity — this is something we have been saying since the earliest days of Google. It’s what drives focus and creativity that ultimately leads to better products that help people all over the world. That’s the opportunity in front of us today, and I’m excited for us to rise to the moment again”, wrote Pichai in the e-mail. In the Q2 alone, Google has added 10,000 people to its workforce despite the economic headwinds. But it looks like even a behemoth like Google is bracing itself for a possible recession. Global companies like Tesla, Snap, and Lyft have already announced that they are slowing hiring. Even, Meta has reduced its hiring target for the year. In the past, Google has done relatively well through the dips in the technology sector. The company last went on hiring pause more than a decade ago, but has added significantly to its numbers despite the market downturns.
