Zee, Sony To Effect Merger Soon, May Shut Down Few Channels

The merger was announced in December last year by the leading broadcasting network groups. Both the companies will undergo merger even if shutting down a few channels in selective markets needs to be done.

Broadcasting networks Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEE) and Culver Max Entertainment (formerly known Sony Pictures Networks India) assured the authorities of shutting down TV channels in the certain markets if their proposed merger needs such move.

The merger was announced in December last year by the leading broadcasting network groups. Both the companies will undergo merger even if shutting down a few channels in selective markets needs to be done, reported a leading media house.

One of them said, “CCI has been offered concessions by both ZEE and Sony.” Beside Hindi entertainment, there are a few regional markets, which will serve both of them a combined share of more than the 40 per cent threshold.

Both ZEE and Culver Max have combined ownership of three flagship Hindi general entertainment channels – Zee TV, Sony Entertainment Television (SET) and Sony SAB. &TV, Sony Pal, and Zee Anmol are also owned by them in the same genre.

Likewise, their Hindi movies genre covers channels such as Zee Cinema, Sony Max, &Pictures, Sony Max 2, Sony Wah, Zee Anmol Cinema, Zee Action, Zee Classic, and Zee Bollywood.
