Another Indian has achieved the top position of an international company with his talent. According to a report, Starbucks Corp has recently appointed Indian-origin Laxman Narasimhan as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He will be rebuilding the world’s largest coffee chain.
Narasimhan was previously the CEO of Reckitt, which also manufactures Durex condoms, Enfamil baby formula, and Mucinex cold syrup. He had announced his step down as CEO earlier in the day, shortly after which shares of FTSE-listed Reckitt fell as much as 4 percent.
Meanwhile, according to the coffee giant, the Interim-CEO Howard Schultz, who took over the reins of the company for the third time in April after the retirement of Kevin Johnson, will continue to lead the organization until Narasimhan joins. During the transition phase, Narasimhan will spend time with Schultz and the management team, working as a barista, meeting staff, and touring production sites and coffee farms.
Narasimhan joined Reckitt Company in September 2019 and was the first external candidate to hold the position of CEO at Reckitt since its formation in 1999. The 55-year-old held various executive positions at PepsiCo, including global chief commercial officer and CEO of the company’s businesses in Latin America, Europe, and Sub-Saharan Africa. He was also a senior partner at McKinsey & Co., where he was responsible for the firm’s consumer, retail, and technology practices in the United States, Asia, and India.
