India To Adopt Digital Manufacturing Processes Soon: Mahendra Nath Pandey

Union Minister for Heavy Industries (MHI) Mahendra Nath Pandey said that India will soon adopt digital manufacturing processes and will promote automation and innovation in the industry, on 7 October.

India today holds 40th rank in the Global Innovation Index in the world and quoting the different scenario from 2014, minister said, “India has reached the second position in the Global Manufacturing Risk Index, overtaking the US.”

The MHI’s conference aimed at sensitising the industrial sectors in the country to adopt digital manufacturing processes and to promote automation and innovation in the industry.

Deliberating on the implementation of new-age technologies-additive manufacturing, the highlights of conference were data analytics, advanced robotics, and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) in manufacturing.

“National Conference on Industry 4.0 will bring in more convergence between industry, educational institutions, youth, entrepreneurs, and policymakers” said Pandey during the inaugural ceremony of the ‘Conference on Industry 4.0: Challenges Ahead and Way Forward.’

Along with inauguration of ‘Model Smart Factory and Assessment Tools’ 175 electric vehicles for Gujarat and Karnataka were also flagged off under the FAME Scheme, on the same occasion.

Highlighting the initiatives undertaken by the government in accelerating technological development in the area of Global Capital Goods he said, “Excellent centers have been set up Under the Capital Goods Scheme, by the Ministry. Such will include which Common Engineering Facilitation Centres and Technological Vibrant Ecosystem have also been established. This will aid in training the manpower of the country for Industry 4.0.”

The minister also read a message from PM Narendra Modi which said, “May the deliberations at the conference help in devising a strategic roadmap for Indian industry to leverage technology to resolve challenges of the future.” Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI), Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, Indian Institutes of Technology Madras, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, and Centre for Industry 4.0 (C4i4) participated in conference and presented their initiatives toward Industry 4.0.
