Govt Asks Pharma Sector To Explain Marketing Practices Of Drugs And Medicines

To review the matter, a meeting by a high-level committee formed under Niti Aayog’s VK Paul was held on 5 November. The health minister Mansukh Mandaviya had formed the panel following the reports which talked about companies spending exorbitantly on promotion of drugs

The government has asked the pharma companies for an explanation about offering gifts and free medicines to doctors as samples for promotion. as Such move by the government is taken to review the regulatory framework on marketing practices in respective the sector. 

To review the matter, a meeting by a high-level committee formed under Niti Aayog’s VK Paul was held on 5 November along with the representatives of pharma lobby groups

According to a media report, the lobby groups in accordance with their member companies will have to consider the matter and submit reply to the committee.

The members of Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India, Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance and Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association attended the meeting on 4 November.
