Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser, Anton Zeilinger Jointly Wins Nobel Prize In Physics

Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser and Anton Zeilinger wins the Nobel Prize in Physics for their research in quantum technology. The Nobel Prize in chemistry, literature, peace and economics will be announced on 5, 6, 7 and 10 October, respectively.

Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser and Anton Zeilinger jointly wins the Nobel Prize in Physics for “conducted ground breaking experiments using entangled quantum states, where two particles behave like a single unit even when they are separated.”

“Their results have cleared the way for new technology based upon quantum information,” said the Nobel Prize committee in a press release.

Last year in 2021, Giorgio Parisi, Klaus Hasselmann and Syukuro Manabe were awarded Nobel Prize for their contribution towards our understanding of climate change. And efforts in explaining and forecasting complicated natural factors earned them honour.

Noting experiment’s importance and contribution to humankind, Chair of the Nobel Committee for Physics, Anders Irbäck said, “It has become increasingly clear that a new kind of quantum technology is emerging. We can see that the laureates’ work with entangled states is of great importance, even beyond the fundamental questions about the interpretation of quantum mechanics.”

On 3 October, Nobel Prize is awarded to Swedish scientist Svante Paabo in medicine for his research on Neanderthal DNA. Followed by these dates, on 5 October, the chemistry prize will be given out and on 6 October, the literature prize. The Nobel Prize in Economics will be awarded on 10 October. The Nobel Prize in Peace will be announced on 7 October.

“The 2022 development of experimental tools by the physics laureates has laid the foundation for a new era of quantum technology. Manipulation and managing quantum states and all their layers of properties provided us access to tools with unexpected potential,” the Nobel Prize committee said.

Alain Aspect, John Clauser and Anton Zeilinger have created benchmarks by achieving capability to study and control particles which are in entangled states through their ground-breaking studies. The laureates’ creation of experimental tools has created a basis for a new age of quantum technology.
