Railway Employees Receive Productivity Linked Bonus For FY21-22

The Union Cabinet approved the payment of productivity linked bonus (PLB) to railway employees for the financial year 2021-22. Nearly 11.27 lakh non-gazetted Railway employees have received such bonus

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said that the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi sanctioned the payment of productivity linked bonus (PLB) to railway employees for the financial year 2021-22, on 12 October.

Eligible railway employees are paid PLB every year before the Dussehra/a/puja holidays. On the same lines, an amount equivalent to 78 days wages has been paid under as PLB this year too. Nearly 11.27 lakh non-gazetted Railway employees have received such bonus.

The upper limit for payment under PLB for an eligible railway employee is Rs 17,951 for 78 days. This category of eligible employees includes track maintainers, drivers and guards, station masters, supervisors, technicians, technician helpers, controllers, pointsmen, ministerial staff and other group ‘C’ staff.

According to estimates, the financial implication of such payment has to be Rs 1,832.09 crore. The said decision for payment of PLB has been taken in spite of unfavourable financial situation that arose due to post-Covid challenges, said government in a statement

The actual number of PLB days paid is more than the days worked out on the basis of defined formulae, it said.

The payment of PLB acts as an incentive to motivate the railway employees for working towards improvement in the performance of the Railways, it added.
