Unemployment Rate Down To 6.6% In April To June 2023: Govt
The male unemployment rate dropped from 7.1 per cent to 5.9 per cent, whereas, female rate dropped from 9.5 per cent to 9.1 per cent, data revealed
Unemployment Rate (UR) in urban areas fell to 6.6 per cent in April–June 2023 from 7.6 per cent in same period in previous year, according to the data released by government.
During this time, the male unemployment rate dropped from 7.1 per cent to 5.9 per cent, whereas, female rate dropped from 9.5 per cent to 9.1 per cent. Decrease in male unemployment rate was sharper than the female.
The labour force participation rate (LFPR) from April to June 2023 is recorded at 48.8 per cent, slightly higher than the 48.5 per cent recorded in January-March 2023 period.
The LFPR in urban areas went up to 48.8 per cent in April–June 2023 from 47.5 per cent in April–June 2022. For males, it stayed at 73.5 per cent, however, for females, it rose from 20.9 per cent to 23.2 per cent.
Contrary to urban regions, LFPR in rural areas increased from 50.7 per cent in 2017–18 to 60.8 per cent in 2022–23. In India, the LFPR for male climbed from 75.8 per cent in 2017–18 to 78.5 per cent in 2022–23, while the LFPR for female increased at a similar rate, from 23.3 per cent to 37.0 per cent.
Data also observed that Worker Population Ratio (WPR) in urban areas grew from 43.9 per cent in April–June 2022 to 45.5 per cent in April–June 2023. Males saw a rise from 68.3 per cent to 69.2 per cent over this time, while females had an increase from 18.9 per cent to 21.1 per cent.
