CFOs: The Heartline Of Business Growth & Governance
With a focus on the delicate balance between business expansion and regulatory compliance, Ravi emphasised on the nature of CFOs job as the “heartline” of any organisation
In a thought-provoking session at the BW CFO World Finance Leadership & Strategy Summit 2024, Sethurathnam Ravi, Founder of Ravi Rajan & Co. LLP and Chairman of TFCIL, delivered compelling insights into the pivotal role of Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) in today’s corporate landscape.
With a focus on the delicate balance between business expansion and regulatory compliance, Ravi emphasised on the nature of CFOs job as the “heartline” of any organisation. He articulated the constant oscillation faced by CFOs, as they try to maintain balance between driving growth and ensuring adherence to governance standards.
According to Ravi, “The CFO being the heart line of the company has to control, regulate, ensure compliance and still try to maintain growth of the business, so there is always a great pendulum which shifts between increase in business and doing compliance on the other side.”
Drawing attention to a poignant case study, Ravi highlighted the repercussions of poor governance on even the most prominent companies. “Best example of business suffering due to poor governance is Byju’s,” he stated, “a giant in ed-tech that suffered a huge shock in the market and non-compliance with governance is one of the vital factors to it.”
Through his remarks, Ravi highlighted the crucial role CFOs play in not only managing finances but also shaping strategic direction and upholding corporate integrity. As the custodians of financial health and guardians of governance, CFOs emerge as key architects in steering companies towards sustainable growth and resilience.
