Saibal Sengupta, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Orient Electric, clinched the silver medal for remarkable transformation at the Best CFO Awards hosted by BW Businessworld
Sengupta’s contributions have been instrumental in driving excellence across various fronts, translating into substantial business gains.
Firstly, he spearheaded the transformation of manual cheque collection to online methods across 4,400 plus customers nationwide, resulting in a significant shift in online collections from 90 per cent to 97 per cent. Moreover, his efforts in institutionalising a customised vendor financing programme yielded approximately 45 per cent of payables and around Rs 3 crore in annual benefits.
Additionally, Sengupta played a pivotal role in enhancing governance rigour post demerger and listing, and successfully converted a debt of Rs 134 crore in FY18 to a cash surplus since FY21. Under his leadership, a consistent cost reduction programme has delivered savings equivalent to 3 per cent of product costs.
Furthermore, Sengupta’s strategic acumen has been evident in the establishment and implementation of key initiatives. Centralisation of finance operations, digitisation strategies and decision support policies have streamlined processes and fostered synergies. Notably, his leadership in addressing ambiguous situations and business challenges with innovative solutions, such as reimagining business processes and navigating staffing crises, has been commendable.
